In this article I am going to give you 5 hard hitting and brutally effective motivation techniques that will get you revved up and ready to take on whatever life throws at you.

How important is motivation to you and your life? Well let me ask you this – what makes you get out of bed in the morning? "I need the money my job provides to pay the bills" you say, well that is a start – that is motivation by fear, fear of not being able to pay the mortgage or the bills.

That is not a great motivation, but it is certainly a powerful one, how many times have you rushed around at work, adrenaline pumping because you had a deadline to meet that was just minutes away? That is also fear that was driving you.

I don’t want to talk about bad motivation though, I want to talk about using my motivation techniques to give you positive motivation that makes you go out and grab life by the collar and shake what you want out of it's exceptionally large pockets…

So the answer to my question is that it is absolutely fundamental to your life and to everyone’s lives that we are motivated in some way, otherwise we just wouldn’t get out of bed (we probably wouldn’t have a bed either if we didn’t pay those pesky bills).

So what are my motivation techniques? Well I have distilled them down to the following five:

Motivation techniques #1 – Increase your energy

You can have energy but still not have motivation to change things, but I guarantee that if you don’t have any energy you won’t have any motivation! Try this breathing exercise to turbocharge your body – breath in deeply for 2 – 4 seconds, hold that in for 8 – 16 seconds and then breathe out for 4 – 8 seconds. Do this 10 times in a row (with some normal breathing between each one) twice a day and you will soon seen your energy levels skyrocket!

Motivation techniques #2 - Get angry

Anger is my mind is undirected passion, and it is a fantastic motivator as it is such a powerful emotion. Harness your anger to evoke change, tired of being overweight? Get angry about never being able to shed those pounds and decide to lose them for good. Never get that promotion you deserve? Get angry about it, get every book you can to improve your capabilities at your job, ask for training, work late, come up with fresh ideas! Anger is the catalyst for the flames of your change.

Motivation techniques #3 - Break down your tasks

Let’s face it, a big task like starting your own company is daunting, it is also demotivating! Split it out, the smaller the tasks the easier they are. Make it your first task to look up on the internet how to set a business up, then find out what areas you need to know, then look closer at those areas etc. Make each task small and achievable, concentrate on it and achieve it and the big task will happen all by itself!

Motivation techniques #4 - Set daily goals

Achieving goals is motivating, period! So why are your goals so big, like earning £3,000,000 and owning your own country? You aren’t going to achieve them (straight away…) so you are missing out on motivation. Set small daily goals, write them down, and then write down at the end of the day when you achieve them. This means you can’t excuse yourself all the time as you have to write down if you achieved it or not, and if you didn’t, put it as tomorrow’s goal. You will feel great every time you achieve your goal, so you will strive to hit your goals every day and you will be amazed how much you get done! This is one of my favourite motivation techniques so make sure you use it regularly.

Motivation techniques #5 - Visualise the results

How motivating is it just work work work all the time towards your dreams? For some people it is very motivating, and with these motivation techniques you should be so motivated you could move Everest three inches to the right just for fun! Some people like to see immediate results though, and if they don’t then they lose their motivation. Try visualising the end result, visualise your own business, your new car, your promotion. See it clearly in your mind and give yourself a short blast of what it feels like to be in that situation – this will motivate you to go out there and achieve the real situation!

Ok so if you can’t motivate yourself with these red-hot motivation techniques then you must be made of stone, or just a teenager….

So to summarise, then motivation is the key to achieving anything in life and I have given you 5 fantastic motivation techniques to supercharge your energy and motivation to a whole new level – now you need to take action to make this work.

I am releasing the new motivated you onto an unsuspecting world…

Good tips, Steve. I'm not sure about #2 for myself, as I prefer to stay positive, and to get angry would probably just bring negativity to the forefront of my mind... but I see your reasoning regardless.

Definitely going to try your breathing exercises. Always looking for a way to boost the energy levels (more sleep would probably help, but there's just too much to do!)
